MELAKA, May 16 (Bernama) -- The Melaka state government will organise more programmes featuring arts, culture and heritage as the main attractions for tourists to Melaka, especially in conjunction with the Visit Melaka Year 2.0 (TMM 2.0) this year.
State Tourism, Heritage, Arts, and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman said the initiative was implemented not only to introduce the uniqueness of Melaka as a tourist state, with various ethnicities and its own culture and heritage to international tourists but also to the younger generation in the country.
He said that the step is also one of the efforts to preserve and revive the elements of art, culture, and heritage in Melaka so that they are not forgotten.
Melaka is not only famous as a UNESCO heritage state, with its unique and interesting historical buildings but also has various other specialties and attractions in terms of art, culture and heritage.
"Through this programme, we will also involve the participation of international and domestic tourists to experience playing traditional sports or games, cultural and artistic performances, or making traditional food or snacks," he said to reporters here today.
He said this after the Sepetang Warisan Santai @ Banda Hilir programme, which was also attended by the Mayor of the Melaka Historic City Counci(MBMB) Datuk Shadan Othman and the Melaka Tourism Promotion Division (Tourism Melaka) general manager Nasrul Ahmad.
Meanwhile, Abdul Razak said nearly 100 programmes, including mega events, will be organised by the end of this year in conjunction with TMM 2.0 to complete the state's tourism calendar for this year with a total of 220 programmes.
"Every month, there are indeed tourism programmes planned in conjunction with TMM 2.0, featuring various activities to attract both domestic and international tourists, including the Sepetang Warisan Santai @ Banda Hilir programme taking place today," he also said.
Earlier, at the programme, the state government provided a contribution of RM1,000 to four trishaw associations in Melaka as part of an effort to recognise the role of trishaw riders, who are icons of the state's tourism.
