LONDON, May 31 (Bernama-PA Media/dpa) -- Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has paid tribute to Arne Slot after his fellow Dutchman was sacked as Reds head coach, reported PA Media/dpa.
After replacing Jürgen Klopp in the Anfield hotseat two years ago, Slot had instant success as he steered Liverpool to just a second Premier League crown in his first season in charge.
However, a disappointing title defence and disharmony in the dressing room – with the outgoing Mohamed Salah the most outspoken – led to fans turning on Slot, who was relieved of his position on Saturday.
Van Dijk looked back at happier times as he posted in an Instagram story on Sunday: “We’ll never forget winning the Premier League in our first season together.
“Thank you, Trainer, and best of luck to you and your family for the future.”
