IPOH, June 11 (Bernama) -- A driver was found dead after the vehicle he was travelling in caught fire following a crash involving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a trailer lorry along Jalan Batu 9, Kampung Semangat, Segari, near Pantai Remis early this morning.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 4.36 am, prompting a team from the Pantai Remis Fire and Rescue Station to be dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival at 4.52 am, firefighters found a Toyota Innova engulfed in flames, with about 90 per cent of the vehicle destroyed after it was believed to have collided with a Nissan trailer lorry.
“After the fire was extinguished, rescue personnel discovered a victim trapped inside the vehicle. The victim’s identity and gender have yet to be determined,” he said in a statement today.
Sabarodzi said the 60-year-old trailer driver sustained minor injuries and received initial treatment from medics before being taken to hospital by ambulance for further treatment.
According to Sabarodzi, firefighting operations were carried out using a hose reel supplied by the fire engine’s water tank until the blaze was completely extinguished.
“Firefighters also used specialised rescue-cutting equipment to remove the victim’s body before handing it over to the police for further action. The team also carried out clean-up work to remove vehicle debris and clear an oil spill caused by the accident,” he said.
He added that the operation was brought under control at 5.30 am and concluded fully at 6.48 am.
