DAPSY Wants Young-Spirited Candidates To Contest In Johor, N.Sembilan State Elections

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Bernama) -- The DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) will not propose any quota or percentage of candidates from its wing to the DAP for the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.

On the contrary, DAPSY National Executive Committee chairman Woo Kah Leong said the wing's main focus is to ensure that the candidates put forward understand the aspirations of the youth and are capable of championing issues that are close to that group.

"The candidate needs to have the mentality to address the issue of youth unemployment, to have the mentality to abolish the Universities and University Colleges Act (AUKU) 1971, and so on. That's more important to me," he said.

Woo, who is also the Pasir Bedamar assemblyman, was met by reporters after the DAPSY dinner with media representatives here today.

He was asked to comment on the preparations and expectations of the candidates that the wing is expected to present for both state elections.

Meanwhile, commenting on the likelihood that the issue of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) recognition will affect voter sentiment in both states, Woo said the issue should be viewed from the perspective of national education interests and not as a political tool ahead of the upcoming state elections.

He said the commitment to recognise the certificate was not only included in the Buku Jingga manifesto when DAP was with PAS under the Pakatan Rakyat, but even Barisan Nasional (BN) through former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had made a similar promise.
