KOTA BHARU, June 12 (Bernama) --  General Operations Force (GOF) seized 20 boxes containing frozen chicken meat sticks believed to have been smuggled from Thailand, and valued at RM48,000, in an operation in Lembah Sireh here yesterday.

Its Southeast Brigade Commander Ahmad Radzi Hussain said a 33-year-old man was also arrested, while a lorry was seized in the operation. The total value of the seized goods is estimated at RM198,200.

He said the lorry drew suspicion during a patrol before being stopped for inspection in Lembah Sireh at 9.30 pm.

The inspection revealed a quantity of frozen chicken sticks believed to have been smuggled from Thailand. The driver failed to present valid documents related to the ownership and movement of the goods.

“Initial investigations found that the frozen food was believed to be delivered to the area near the Kota Bharu bus station before being distributed to customers according to orders,” he said in a statement today.

Ahmad Radzi said the suspect was detained to assist with the investigation, and the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(e) of the Customs Act 1967 for possessing or transporting smuggled prohibited goods.
