IPOH, June 18 (Bernama) -- A disciplined routine of revising lessons for five hours a day was the key to success for Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Jalan Tasek student, Yong Xin Yi, 20, who achieved an excellent result of 4As in the 2025 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination.

Xin Yi said she allocated revision time from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm every day after school hours, in addition to giving her full focus during teaching and learning sessions in class.

"For me, focusing in class is more important because it makes it easier for me to understand the teacher's explanations directly, thereby reducing confusion when revising at home.

"Apart from that, I also make sure that all homework assigned by teachers is completed, as it helps me master the topics learned much better," she said when met by reporters here today.

Earlier, the Ipoh-born who is the only child in the family, obtained Grade A for General Studies, Principles of Accounting, General Studies and Economics, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.00.

She was also among five students from SMK Jalan Tasek who achieved 4As in the examination this year.

She added that one of the most challenging subjects for her was General Studies, as it requires good writing skills and an understanding of the set format and marking scheme.

According to her, this challenge led her to pay more attention to that subject compared to others to ensure that the weakness could be overcome early on.

Furthermore, she said the success achieved was not solely due to her own efforts, but was also driven by continuous support from her parents, who gave her a lot of encouragement throughout her studies.

"I want to use this success to change my family's fortunes for the better and to ensure that my parents' sacrifices all this while are rewarded with even prouder achievements in the future," she said.

The daughter of a clerk (mother) and a phone salesman (father) - who aspires to become an economist - intends to pursue her studies in economics at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

She said the decision to choose that field was made after assessing her personal interests and career potential in the sector, which offers broad prospects for the future.
