PAPAR, June 19 (Bernama) -- Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali today reviewed the status of the implementation of several water supply stabilisation projects in the district to ensure that the project is progressing according to plan and is able to address the water supply issues faced by local residents.
Armizan, who is also the Member of Parliament for Papar, said the visit was held following a special meeting to find out the status of the implementation of water supply stabilisation projects in Papar which was held on June 15.
"Two projects currently underway are the upgrade of the Kogopon Water Treatment Plant (WTP) from 40 million litres per day (mld) to 80 mld and the upgrade of the Kampung Kabang intake," he said in a statement today.
He said the two projects were among important efforts to increase the capacity and efficiency of the water supply system in Papar area which is facing increasing demand from time to time.
During the visit, Armizan also reviewed the situation at the EWSS Plant and the JETAMA Limbahau Plant which have experienced operational disruptions due to raw water turbidity problems in the past week.
Armizan said both plants were experiencing problems with the NTU (nephelometric turbidity unit) value of raw water at the inlet, forcing the plant operations to be temporarily closed for a certain period.
"I also reviewed the situation at the two plants which this week experienced problems with the NTU value of raw water at the inlet and had to be temporarily closed for a certain period until the raw water condition reached a treatable standard," he said.
He said direct monitoring in the field was important to get a true picture of the challenges faced and to ensure that solution measures could be implemented more effectively to guarantee a stable water supply to consumers in Papar.
