Reduction In Diesel Price To Bring Direct Benefits To The People - Mustapha

KOTA KINABALU, June 22 (Bernama) -- The reduction in the subsidised diesel price to RM2.10 per litre from July proves that the economic reforms and targeted subsidy measures implemented by the MADANI Government are beginning to deliver direct benefits to the people.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said the implementation of the targeted subsidy mechanism through the use of MyKad would not only ensure that subsidies reach eligible Malaysians, but also help curb leakages and smuggling that have long undermined the effectiveness of the country's subsidy system.

"This measure is being implemented at a time when the world continues to face geopolitical uncertainties and pressures on global energy markets.

"The ongoing conflict in West Asia requires countries to adopt a more strategic approach to safeguarding energy security and economic stability," he said in a statement here today.

Mustapha said Malaysia's efforts to strengthen energy cooperation with countries such as Russia and Turkmenistan, as well as the assurance of energy supplies secured through strategic ties with major energy-producing nations, demonstrate the MADANI Government's commitment to enhancing the country's long-term energy resilience.

He said the diesel price reduction reflects Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administrative efficiency in prudently managing the national economy, with the reforms undertaken having succeeded in easing the cost of living burden borne by the people.

Yesterday, Anwar announced that the subsidised diesel price for Malaysians would be reduced to RM2.10 per litre from July, in line with the approach adopted under the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme using MyKad verification.

At present, diesel is sold at the subsidised retail price of RM2.15 per litre at all petrol stations in Sabah and Sarawak, while in Peninsular Malaysia, it is sold at the unsubsidised retail price of RM4.37 per litre.
