New JPJ BTS Office First Metropolitan Model Branch, Open Till 10pm, Seven Days A Week

KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) today officially opened its new Bandar Tasik Selatan (BTS) branch office at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS), the department’s first branch based on its metropolitan model, open till 10 pm seven days a week.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the new office would enhance customers’ experience when dealing with JPJ, thanks to its strategic location offering ease access via public transport and ample parking facilities.

“This is no longer the concept of a traditional government office but one that suits the needs of city residents. With operations until 10 pm and seven days a week, people can manage their affairs at a time that suits them without having to sacrifice work or family commitments,” he said during the opening ceremony here today.

Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail; Transport Ministry (MOT) secretary-general Datuk Jana Santhiran Muniayan; Maju TMAS chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz; and JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli were present at the ceremony.

The office, which occupies more than 14,000 square feet on the third floor of TBS, replaces the JPJ Bandar Sri Permaisuri branch, which had been operating since 2006 and served approximately 1,300 customers daily, he added.

“The relocation to TBS not only provides greater convenience for customers but also helps reduce traffic congestion at the previous location, which was situated in a shop-lot area with limited parking facilities,” he said.

At a press conference after the ceremony, he said the branch is capable of serving up to 1,700 customers per day and is expected to help ease congestion at other JPJ branches.

“The extended operating hours from 8.30 am to 10 pm will be implemented through a two-shift system, which also provides flexibility for staff to manage their personal commitments,” he said, adding that the new concept forms part of efforts to expand the presence of modern JPJ offices in high-traffic public areas while optimising the use of public assets such as transportation terminals.

“We do not only view TBS as a public transportation hub, but also as an important community centre. With the availability of various facilities and now a government agency office, it will become a focal point for the public and add value to this terminal,” he said, as he revealed that the ministry was considering a similar approach at other locations, including Terminal Bersepadu Gombak, in the future.

On digitalisation, he said the government remains committed to expanding the use of technology in public service delivery, including through self-service kiosks, the MyJPJ application, and the use of MyDigital ID at the branch.

He said JPJ is also intensifying the use of artificial intelligence (AI), including for analysing driver behaviour, while expanding insurance digitalisation initiatives to make services more convenient for users.

In addition, he said TBS provides an “AI helpdesk” that enables users, including foreign tourists, to obtain information in multiple languages.
