TANGKAK, June 22 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his gratitude to the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail for the gesture of friendship extended towards him.
Anwar, who thanked Tunku Mahkota Ismail for granting him an audience today, urged all parties, especially political parties, not to involve the royal institution in election campaigns.
“That is why, when Tunku Mahkota Ismail came to Kuala Lumpur and granted me an audience, I accepted it. This alone answers petty political campaigns.
“You do not even dare engage in political fights, (yet) you use the King’s name...I have duly consulted with the Johor Sultan (Johor Regent),” he said at the ceremony to announce Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates for the 16th Johor state election at Padang Bukit Gambir Extreme Park here tonight.
Also present were DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and PH leaders.
Anwar further said that during the audience with Tunku Mahkota Ismail, he took the opportunity to explain projects implemented by the federal government under his leadership for the benefit of the people of Johor.
Meanwhile, he said that PH, as the party leading the federal government, will maintain good relations with the Malay Rulers and accept their views, advice and reprimands.
“With all the sultans, I share my views, and sometimes there is agreement while at other times there are disagreements and counter views. I accept in good faith any advice given by a sultan.
“The same goes for His Majesty (Sultan Ibrahim), King of Malaysia. His Royal Highness gives his views, we offer our counter views, and we listen to his advice.
“Regardless of problems and disagreements, we consult, seek an audience and explain. That has always been my stance, and it is shared by my colleagues in Pakatan Harapan,” he said.
