UPSI Targets i-Furqan As Int’l Tahfiz Education Reference Hub

24/06/2026 06:12 PM

IPOH, June 24 (Bernama) -- Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) is aiming to position the Tahfiz And Turath Islami Education Institute (i-Furqan) as a key reference centre for tahfiz education at national, regional and international levels, in efforts to strengthen the development of Islamic education in the country.

According to UPSI Board member Prof Dr Azmi Mohamad, i-Furqan should not operate as an ordinary academic department but should instead assume a broader role in advancing Islamic education and the country’s tahfiz institutions.

“We want i-Furqan to progress further, with a role that goes beyond UPSI and extends to the national stage.

“We hope to see how i-Furqan can play a role in strengthening national tahfiz education policy and emerge as a leading reference centre, emulated not only in Malaysia but also in the Nusantara region and abroad,” he said.

He said this in his address at the Prof Dr Mohamad Rozaimi Ramle Budiman lecture programme, held at the Sultan Abdul Jalil Campus Convention Hall, UPSI, Tanjong Malim, today.

Azmi said UPSI is also documenting each stage of i-Furqan’s development, including its new building project, as part of an initiative to establish a lasting institutional legacy for future generations.

“We want to see where i-Furqan will stand in the next 30 years and how it will contribute to society and the country,” he said.

Azmi also extended his appreciation to Prof Dr Mohamad Rozaimi Ramle for his work in fiqh (the practical application of Islamic rulings based on evidence) and usul fiqh (the principles or methodology used to derive those rulings from the primary sources), which has not only raised UPSI’s profile but also gained recognition nationally and internationally.

He said Mohamad Rozaimi’s appointment as Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (UniSIRAJ) reflects the strength and excellence of UPSI-trained talent.

“This is a significant recognition for UPSI, as its talent is given the trust to lead a key higher education institution,” he said.

Mohamad Rozaimi said the lecture, "Ilmu Hadis dan Realiti Pascamodenisme: Menyuluh Kebenaran di Celah Kebanjiran Maklumat" (Hadith Studies and the Reality of Postmodernism: Illuminating Truth Amid an Overload of Information) underscores that hadith science is a vital Islamic intellectual legacy in verifying the authenticity of reports attributed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

“In a world flooded with information through the internet and artificial intelligence technology, society faces difficulty distinguishing between genuine and false information.

“Therefore, understanding hadith knowledge and the methodology of evaluating narrations has become increasingly important,” he added.
