KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (Bernama) -- Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has congratulated the Malaysian Prisons Department, particularly the Batu Gajah Correctional Centre, for its recognition by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) through the organisation of a Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training course involving 42 inmates.
He said this success proves that the prison institution is not merely a place to serve punishment, but a rehabilitation institution that gives individuals a second chance to rebuild their lives.
"Through training like this, the prospects are not only equipped with life-saving skills that are recognized, but also instilled with humanitarian values, discipline, responsibility and self-confidence as preparation to become productive members of society again.
"This is the philosophy that continues to be the core of the Prison Department, which is to rehabilitate, not merely to punish," he said through a Facebook post today.
According to him, the ultimate goal of the department is to ensure that every prospect returning to the community has the skills, values and ability to contribute positively to their family, community and country.
He hoped that more high-impact programs like this can be implemented in efforts to strengthen the rehabilitation and social reintegration agenda for the welfare of society.
