KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) has secured RM1.037 million in contributions and sponsorships for the Malaysia Press Night (MWM) 2026, which will be held next month.

MPI chief executive officer Dr Ainol Amriz Ismail said the amount comprised RM587,000 in contributions from 60 organisations and RM450,000 in sponsorship from PETRONAS, which has sponsored the cash prizes for the MPI-PETRONAS Malaysian Journalism Awards since 1994.

"The support extended goes beyond making this prestigious annual event a success. It reflects our shared commitment to strengthening professional, ethical and trusted journalism," he said in his speech at the MWM 2026 Contributors' Appreciation Ceremony here today.

Also present were MPI president Datuk Yong Soo Heong, deputy president Farrah Naz Abd Karim, MPI governing council member and Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, and PETRONAS Strategic Communications, Channels and Media Relations general manager Jalina Joheng.

Ainol Amriz said this year's MWM would be even more significant with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim scheduled to attend on July 17.

He described MWM as a symbol of recognition for media practitioners who work tirelessly to gather facts, verify information and deliver accurate reports in the interest of the people and the nation.

He also expressed appreciation to the sponsors and contributors for their trust, commitment and support, which have enabled MPI to continue implementing professional development programmes, industry training and other initiatives that benefit the country's media community and wider industry.

Today's event also featured the third edition of the PEMIKIR: Media Evolution & Industry Transformation, which serves as a platform for media practitioners and industry players to exchange views and discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of communications and journalism.

The forum featured Malaysian Journalism Icon Datuk A. Kadir Jasin, Karangkraf Group chief executive officer Firdaus Hussamuddin, TV AlHijrah chief executive officer Namanzee Harris and Vanakkam Malaysia editor-in-chief Thiaga Rajan Muthusamy as panellists, with Ally Iskandar moderating.
