KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 (Bernama) -- E-hailing platform Maxim is ramping up efforts to break down mobility barriers for persons with disabilities, the elderly, low-income families, and other underserved groups nationwide by offering budget-friendly rides, smart tech solutions and strategic partnerships.

Maxim Kuala Lumpur Head Syed Abdul Syarif Syed Peiaru affirmed the company's commitment to ensuring that no Malaysian is left behind when it comes to mobility, regardless of background or circumstance.

"I believe that transportation is more than just a way to travel from one place to another; it is a gateway to opportunities and independence.

"When I say that our goal is to make rides accessible to the inclusive community across Malaysia, I mean ensuring that everyone, including persons with disabilities (OKU), senior citizens, low-income families, students, and underserved communities, has access to affordable, safe, and reliable transportation," he said in a Q&A (question-and-answer) provided by Maxim.

Syed Abdul Syarif said accessible mobility empowers individuals to actively pursue education, secure jobs, access healthcare, and engage in social life, all while breaking down limitations and fostering greater independence.

He added that accessibility remains a key focus for the company as reliable transportation plays a crucial role in helping people remain productive and connected. "Transportation should empower people," he emphasised.

He firmly believes that affordability and comfort go hand in hand with accessibility, which is why Maxim is committed to keeping fares reasonable while expanding into rural and underserved areas.

The company, he said, continues to strengthen accessibility through budget-friendly rides, tech innovation and active community engagement.

Syed Abdul Syarif also revealed that Maxim is actively forging partnerships with hospitals, educational institutions, NGOs and other organisations serving vulnerable communities to ensure that essential services are within reach for those who need them most.

On the technology front, he explained that Maxim's digital platform makes booking seamless, offering users transparent fares, real-time connectivity with nearby drivers, and hassle-free access.

"As technology continues to evolve, I believe it will enable us to introduce more innovative features that improve accessibility and create a better experience for all passengers, especially those from the inclusive community," he said.

Among its initiatives is the Mesra OKU service, which offers extended waiting time, trained driver assistance, mobility aid support and voice-recognition booking features.

Passengers are encouraged to indicate assistance needs via the app to enable appropriate support throughout the journey.

Syed Abdul Syarif said accessible e-hailing services have given OKU users greater independence, enabling them to commute to work, attend classes, keep medical appointments, and take part in community life with more ease.

He added that the company has also teamed up with the Society of the Blind in Malaysia to promote the use of TalkBack voice features and raise awareness of digital mobility solutions tailored for visually impaired users.

Beyond affordable fares, Maxim has also rolled out special pricing initiatives tailored for OKU and individuals with special needs, ensuring that mobility remains within reach for those who need it most.

Syed Abdul Syarif said the company's inclusive vision extends to the sports arena as well, with Maxim lending a hand to para-athletes and adaptive sports communities, including providing transport support for Sarawak para swimmers heading to training and competitions.

He added that Maxim firmly believes technology should serve everyone, and will continue refining its platform with user-centric features while staying closely engaged with community partners to better understand the needs of persons with disabilities.

These efforts, he said, reflect the company's long-term pledge to ensure that innovation creates equal opportunities for every member of society.

Going forward, he said Maxim will continue to work hand-in-hand with government agencies, healthcare providers, NGOs, educational institutions, and community organisations to expand mobility access, strengthen social inclusion, and ensure that transportation serves as a bridge to opportunity, rather than an obstacle, for all Malaysians.
