SHAH ALAM, June 27 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) raided a premise at Jalan Pusat Perdagangan Lagoon Perdana in Petaling Jaya here, which was believed to be conducting activities contrary to fatwa and linked to Shiite teachings, two days ago.

JAIS director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said the raid was conducted at 9.34 pm following public tip-offs, during which 226 foreign nationals comprising 147 men, 51 women and 28 children were inspected.

“The operation involved cooperation between JAIS, the Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Immigration Department, Fire and Rescue Department, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, and the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), with a total strength of 120 personnel,” he said in a statement today.

Shahzihan said the raid was conducted under the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment (Selangor) 1995, involving investigations under Sections 12(c), 13 and 16 of the same enactment.

He said MBSJ also issued notices under Subsection 72(1)(a) and (c) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 [Act 133] regarding several non-compliances related to the construction and building renovations that were carried out without approval from the local authority.

“Members of the public who have information related to Shiite teachings are urged to contact the JAIS hotline at 1800-88-2424.

“This is to enable appropriate action to be taken. JAIS also advises Muslims not to be involved in any activities related to Shiite teachings,” he said.
