JASIN, June 28 (Bernama) -- Melaka will continue to strengthen the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) development agenda to provide the state's youth with greater opportunities and brighter future prospects.

Chief Minisiter Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the effort was aimed at equipping more young people with future-ready skills, enabling them to meet the demands of high-tech industries and seize emerging opportunities in the state.

“The government’s goal is clear. who are not only able to secure good employment and income, but are also equipped with the skills, competitiveness and self-confidence to succeed in any field they venture into.

“Young people must not remain on the sidelines of development, they should instead play a central role in driving the state’s progress,” he said when officiating the Melaka State-Level Festival Belia @ Hari Belia Negara at Jasin Stadium here last night.

Also present were Melaka Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Datuk VP Shanmugam and State Investment, Industry and TVET Development Committee deputy chairman Datuk Khaidhirah Abu Zahar, who is also the Majlis Gabungan Belia Melaka (MGBM) president,

Ab Rauf said investment in human capital development was just as important as infrastructure development, as the younger generation would determine the state’s direction and progress over the next decade.

“With almost 243,000 youths in the state, the government has a responsibility to ensure that all young people have access to opportunities to grow.

“The state government has therefore introduced the ‘Melaka Sayang Rakyat’ concept to reinforce the youth development agenda through various initiatives, including employability, entrepreneurship, education, character development, as well as social and religious values,” he said.

Ab Rauf said that since taking over the state leadership, nearly RM70 million had been allocated for youth development programmes, improvements to sports facilities and other initiatives for the well-being of young people in Melaka.

He said that at the same time, the state government continued to actively attract high-impact investments to Melaka, with the state recording its highest-ever investment value of RM14.68 billion last year.

As such, Ab Rauf said that young people in Melaka must step out of their comfort zone and seize the various opportunities provided by the government, thereby proving that the state’s youth are capable of competing at the global level.

“Young people should explore their potential in youth development before the age of 30 by taking advantage of leadership and entrepreneurship training programmes provided by the government, in order to become mature and competitive youths and secure a better future,” he said.
