KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 (Bernama) -- African Diplomatic Missions in Malaysia will commemorate  Africa Day 2026 with a symposium on July 2 at Sunway University, aimed at promoting closer ties in several areas of cooperation.

A statement on the event said the symposium, themed “Education, Trade & Investment”, will be jointly hosted by 19 missions from the continent.

“In line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 aimed at achieving inclusive and sustainable social and economic development and in view of Africa’s growing relations with Southeast Asia, the Global South and in particular Malaysia, Africa Day in Malaysia seeks to build mutually beneficial partnerships with the host country to help advance the above-stated goals,” said the statement.

Aimed at promoting closer ties with Malaysia, the Africa Day 2026 Symposium will feature six panellists, four African Heads of Missions, and one representative each from Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and Education Malaysia Global Service (EMGS), it said.

“The event will also showcase the diverse cultures, art, and food from across the African continent,” said the statement.

According to the statement, Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now known as the African Union (AU), on May 25 1963.

As the name depicts, this auspicious occasion celebrates the continent’s rich cultural heritage, resilience, and ongoing efforts toward peace, development, and cooperation for Africans and people of African descent worldwide.

This significant day holds tremendous importance, not only for Africans but also for people worldwide who recognise the invaluable contributions Africa has made and continues to make to our global community, it said.
