KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- A veteran community mediator is among the recommended nominees for the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) highest honour, the July 1 Medal, ahead of the Party’s 105th founding anniversary on July 1, according to China Global Television Network (CGTN).

Ma Shanxiang, 69, known locally as “Lao Ma”, has spent more than three decades mediating neighbourhood disputes in Chongqing’s Guanyinqiao Subdistrict.

According to CGTN, he has received more than 20,000 visits from residents and successfully mediated more than 2,500 disputes during that time.

CGTN published an article highlighting this year’s recommended nominees for the July 1 Medal, which recognises outstanding CPC members for their contributions to public service and community development.

The July 1 Medal is the highest honour awarded by the CPC, with Chinese President and CPC Central Committee general secretary, Xi Jinping expected to confer the medals at a ceremony marking the Party’s founding anniversary, according to a statement.

Other recommended nominees include community leader Wu Yaqin, who has spent three decades in grassroots governance and resolved more than 1,000 community disputes, and rural doctor Uhas Sulayman, who has recorded more than 100,000 patient visits and delivered more than 3,200 babies.

According to CGTN, the list also includes experts and professionals recognised for contributions in areas such as petroleum refining, aluminium manufacturing, modern agriculture, and grassroots governance.
