ALOR SETAR, Sept 29 (Bernama) --The body of a woman who was reportedly swept away by strong currents with her son in Kampung Tanjung Kanan near Kuala Nerang yesterday, was found drowned at 7.45 this morning.

Kedah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Zone 1 head Senior Superintendent Ahmad Aminuddin Abd Rahim said the body of Salmah Mat Zain, 46, was found 50 metres from where the body of her son, Muhammad Rosman Rohadi, 19, was found yesterday.

"The search and rescue (SAR) operation of the victim resumed this morning at 7.28 am and during the initial monitoring carried out at the location, the body of the victim was found around the palm plantation.

"The victim's body was then handed over to police at 7.50 am for further action and the operation was called off after this," he said in a statement here today.

Yesterday, the media reported that the mother and son were swept away by the strong currents in a flood at about 8 am when they tried to cross the water to return to their home in Kampung Tanjung Kanan.

The body of Muhammad Rosman, who is also a person with disability (PwD), was found at 5.25 pm yesterday about 150 metres from the location where the two victims were seen swept away.

Meanwhile, Padang Terap district police chief DSP Mulkiaman Manzar, who was at the scene of the incident this morning, advised residents in the district not to try to wade through the flood if their residential areas were flooded.

"We don't know what's under the water and we don't want events like this to happen again," he said.

According to him, the SAR operation involved 30 members of Kedah JBPM including the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) from Sungai Petani and Jitra Fire and Rescue Stations (BBP).

In addition, he said, 25 officers and members of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), five members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) from Padang Terap and villagers were also involved.
