VIENTIANE (Laos), Nov 26 (Bernama) -- The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will unveil a 20-year vision roadmap, the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, during the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia in May next year.
This was revealed by the Director-General of the ASEAN Department at Laos’ Foreign Ministry, Chatoulong Bouasisavath, during the 'Conversation with ASEAN Chair' session at the 8th ASEAN Media Forum (AMF) in Vientiane on Monday.
"This vision will outline the region’s development roadmap for the next two decades," he said, adding that the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 is now in its final stage and will conclude at the end of next year.
He said works on the development of ASEAN Community Vision 2045 have been ongoing for the past two to three years.
"We have decided to adopt a longer-term approach now. Previously, we only had a ten-year vision, but this time we are moving to a 20-year vision, which we are calling the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
“During our chairmanship this year, we have worked hard, together with Malaysia as the permanent co-shepherd of the drafting process and alongside all ASEAN colleagues, to develop four strategic plans.
"These focus on ASEAN's Political-Security Community, Economic Community, Socio-Cultural Community, and Connectivity,” he said.
