ALL FLOOD MANAGEMENT AGENCIES IN MELAKA IN READINESS MODE - AB RAUF

MELAKA, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- All flood management agencies in Melaka are at readiness mode throughout the monsoon season, especially this December.

Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the move is to ensure the process of assistance and evacuation of flood victims to relief centres in the state will be carried out smoothly.

"We have prepared earlier for the floods, and will be led by state secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad and all agencies involved.

"All preliminary steps, especially in helping flood victims have been taken into account so that it can be done according to standard operating procedures (SOP),” he told reporters after launching 'Malaysia's Next-Gen Smart Ward' at Mahkota Medical Centre here today.

He said the safety aspect would be the main focus of flood management in the state based on the SOP set by the National Disaster Management Agency and the Health Ministry.

Five relief centres have been opened in the state, three in Alor Gajah district, and one each in Jasin and Melaka Tengah districts and the evacuation of flood victims have been underway since this afternoon.

A total of 23 areas have been reported to have been hit by floods in the three districts due to heavy rain since yesterday.
