DUBAI, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman has consented to visit Malaysia to attend the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur this May, says Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

He said Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Farhan Al-Saud had also confirmed his attendance at the summit during a phone call today.

"Prince Faisal called while I was in transit in Dubai on my way back to Kuala Lumpur after completing my official visit to Tehran. I extended the invitation, and he informed me that he would attend alongside the Crown Prince," he told Bernama here today.

Mohamad undertook his inaugural official visit to Iran from Feb 25 to 27, where he co-chaired the Malaysia-Iran Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) with his counterpart Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, in addition to paying a courtesy call on Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian.

Elaborating on the phone conversation, Mohamad said he and Prince Faisal, who also serves as the Co-Chairman of the Saudi-Malaysia Coordination Council (SMCC), discussed developments in bilateral relations between the two countries.

"We are both entrusted with ensuring that bilateral ties, particularly in trade, investment, and other matters, including previously negotiated agreements, are swiftly implemented through SMCC and reported quarterly.

"During our conversation, we provided updates and will continue to report on relevant developments to our respective leaders," he said.

Today, Mohamad also made a call to Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Rashid Al Zayani to invite Gulf leaders to attend the ASEAN-GCC Summit.
