Proposal To Set Up A Digital Trust And Data Safety Commission In The First Half Of 2025 - Gobind

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- The Digital Ministry has suggested establishing a Digital Trust and Data Safety Commission in the first half of 2025.

Its minister Gobind Singh Deo said the commission will oversee the development of a safe, secure, and trusted data ecosystem that fosters productive data flows.

“I had several conversations with certain industry players and we have proposed to set up a pro-tem data committee. I am going to have a meeting with them on Monday and this committee will propose the structure of this commission.

“Hopefully, in the next three months, we will get input on how this commission is supposed to look. Once we have done that, we will prepare a cabinet paper (on it) and take the suggestion up to the cabinet next year,” he said after launching the Malaysia Digital Xceleration (MDX) Summit 2024, here today.

The ministry hopes the commission will lay a robust foundation for the responsible and productive use of technology – both now and in the future.

Meanwhile, Gobind also noted that the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) will be launched in mid-December 2024.

"We will give the details on the announcement date. At this point, a lot of work is being done.

"We have advertised for certain key positions in the agency. There is a lot of interest shown. So now the question is, how is it going to be structured? We're working on that," said Gobind.

Meanwhile, MDX Summit 2024 has gathered industry leaders to shape Malaysia’s future digital landscape, further solidifying the country’s leadership in digital innovation across Southeast Asia.

"Aligned with the ministry's forward-looking vision, the summit emphasises the urgency of adopting advanced technologies.

"It highlights Malaysia’s resolve to strengthen its economic resilience and secure a competitive edge on the global stage through cutting-edge digital transformation,” MDEC said in a statement at the event.

According to MDEC, MDX Summit 2024 will welcome over 3,000 attendees and participants over a two-day event from 24-25, 2024.
