Sabah Calls On State's OGSE Companies To Grab Petronas Opportunities In Next Two Years

KOTA KINABALU, March 7 (Bernama) - The Sabah government has called on oil and gas services and equipment (OGSE) companies in the state to grab opportunities in the sector provided by national oil company Petronas in the next two years.

Sabah's Minister of Finance Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said this comes following the remarkable growth of the past year in the sector in the state, which saw contracts awarded to Sabahan businesses surge from RM613 million in 2021 to over RM2 billion last year.

Masidi, who is also the chairman of SMJ Energy, said that to succeed, Sabahan companies must rise to the challenge by meeting Petronas’s stringent standards and forging strategic partnerships that unlock new capabilities and experiences.

"These include achieving a 50 to 100 percent increase in local jobs awarded to Sabahan companies (in the sector) and a 50 to 100 percent increase in the number of contracts held by Sabah OGSE companies," he said in a statement here today in conjunction with the unveiling of the Kinabalu Activity Outlook (KAO) 2025-2027, a comprehensive three-year forecast detailing upstream, downstream, gas, and maritime activities in Sabah.

The KAO, jointly launched by the Sabah state government and PETRONAS on Feb 28, is a strategic roadmap designed to empower local OGSE companies with critical insights into upcoming opportunities with Petronas, its subsidiaries, and other petroleum arrangement contractors (PACs). It would provide a clear roadmap for local OGSE companies to capitalise on emerging opportunities and strengthen their position in the industry.

Petronas group vice-president Rashidah Alias said the national oil company is fully committed to supporting the growth and development of Sabah’s OGSE sector.
