Altel Digital To Set Up Infrastructure For Satellite, Communication Services In The Next 24 Months

KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 (Bernama) -- Altel Digital Integrated Sdn Bhd will set up satellite and communication services infrastructure in the next 24 months.

Its deputy chief executive officer, Khoo Yuen Hing, said the company would establish two ground earth stations, two telemetry, tracking and command (TT&C) centres, application data centres and a comprehensive PPP-RTK positioning network.

“We will be deploying some of these infrastructures in phases,” he told reporters after the official launch of Altel Digital here today.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil officiated the launch.

“Altel Digital has identified addressable market gaps and segments, with a strategic focus on IoT, high-precision positioning, satellite backhaul, broadband and direct-to-device solutions through Geesatcom,” Khoo said.

Altel Digital is 51:49 per cent joint venture between Altel Group Sdn Bhd and Shanghai-based Zhejiang Geespace Technology Co Ltd (Geespace).

The joint venture company focuses on satellite and communication services, harnessing the Geely Constellation, or Geesatcom, global low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication network to establish an integrated communication service and application system.

The system combines satellite and terrestrial networks to deliver seamless connectivity across Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

Khoo said Altel Digital aims to establish itself as a pioneering Malaysian homegrown provider of LEO satellite services, leveraging advanced LEO satellite technology from Geespace while safeguarding national interests and security.

He added that the partnership would focus on critical application areas, including LEO satellite connectivity, satellite IoT, high-precision positioning and the development of localised ground infrastructure.

Commercial operations will begin this year, with solutions planned for maritime, agriculture, transportation and energy sectors.
