MIGHT Taking More Strategic Approach; Strengthening PPP In Technology
LANGKAWI, May 24 (Bernama)-- The Malaysia Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) is taking a more strategic and meaningful role as it drives efforts to strengthen public-private partnerships (PPP) in technology and accelerate local innovation.
President and chief executive officer, Ts Rushdi Abdul Rahim, said the agency’s involvement in the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) 2025 Exhibition reflects a shift in focus toward fostering national and regional synergy in high technology.
He said the exhibition is a key platform that brings together industry players, government agencies and international strategic partners to collaborate, shape the future of technology and explore new opportunities holistically and inclusively.
“At LIMA 2025, MIGHT is highlighting several rapidly developing and high-potential sectors that can drive Malaysia’s economy forward, including advanced air mobility (AAM), aerospace and space technology, as well as shipbuilding and ship repair (SBSR),” he said in a statement today.
Through a cross-sector and cross-agency approach, MIGHT plays an active role as a policy enabler, providing technical input to ministries and agencies and facilitating collaborations between local industry players and international companies.
Rushdi added that MIGHT has achieved several key milestones in shaping Malaysia’s high-technology landscape, including formulating the National Technology Policy, developing strategic frameworks for the aerospace industry, establishing local technology consortia, and implementing flagship programmes with international strategic partners.
Notable cross-border collaborations include MIGHT-Turkiye, MIGHT-Indonesia, as well as joint innovation platforms with Qatar, Japan, and many others.
In conjunction with LIMA 2025, MIGHT and its strategic partners had launched four major reports, with the launch officiated by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Chang Lih Kang.
It had also celebrated the launch of UzmaSAT-1, Malaysia’s first earth observation satellite owned by Uzma Bhd, a MIGHT member, which symbolises the country’s engineering capabilities and catalyses the strategic development of the National Remote Sensing Satellite Programme (PSPJN).
The innovation is further enhanced by the launch of the Uzma Digital Earth platform—an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered geospatial system that integrates satellite data for dynamic visualisation and analytics.
Rushdi emphasised that MIGHT provides technical advice, market development strategies, and capacity-building initiatives to support local companies' entry into the global market.
He acknowledged, however, that several challenges remain, including better coordination among stakeholders, limited access to highly skilled local talent, the urgency of accelerating technology transfer, and the importance of building investor confidence in innovation-driven sectors.
“I call on all stakeholders to make technology a central pillar of national development. LIMA is not just an international showcase but a convergence point for great minds to share knowledge, strengthen networks, and generate bold new ideas.
“Malaysia has tremendous potential in high technology. MIGHT will continue to play a pivotal role as a driver, facilitator and catalyst of the national tech ecosystem, helping position Malaysia as an inventive, competitive and forward-looking nation on the global stage,” he added.
