Malaysia Invites Global ACMI Providers, Investors To Tap Asia-Pacific Aviation Growth

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia invites global aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) providers and investors to anchor their operations in the country, leveraging its strategic location and strong connectivity to expand across the Asia-Pacific region.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah affirmed the government’s support for the expansion of ACMI operators in Malaysia.

“We do not view ACMI as merely a leasing solution, as we recognise it as a growth enabler.

“One that can enhance regional connectivity, accelerate fleet modernisation, and facilitate the scaling of new airlines and routes — including those that serve underserved and high-potential markets,” he said at the “Expanding Asia’s Aviation Market with ACMI” Leadership Forum hosted by Avia Solutions Group and Ascend Airways.

Hasbi also pointed out that it is timely to explore how ACMI, a globally recognised aviation solution, could serve as a crucial driver of growth, stability and change within Malaysia’s aviation landscape.

“Our aviation stakeholders, from airlines to aerospace manufacturers, have contributed significantly to positioning Malaysia as a respected and competitive aviation player in Asia-Pacific,” he said.

Today, Hasbi noted that Malaysia is no longer just a participant in the global aviation landscape but also a builder of capacity, an enabler of growth, and an innovator of change.

“However, to sustain this progress, we must continue to evolve, and conversation around ACMI is a critical part of that evolution,” he said.

Hasbi added that ACMI has the potential to become a key pillar of Malaysia’s aviation growth strategy, complementing national aviation ambitions by enhancing operational agility, supporting route development, creating high-quality jobs, and facilitating fleet modernisation.

ACMI is a specific type of aircraft leasing arrangement, where the lessor provides an aircraft, the flight and cabin crew, all maintenance and necessary insurance to the lessee airline.
