MPOB, MyIPO Partner To Boost Palm Oil Innovation And R&D

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and the Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation (MyIPO) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen strategic collaboration and safeguard innovation and research in the palm oil sector.

MPOB Director-General Datuk Dr Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir said the partnership reflects the commitment of both agencies to reinforce intellectual property protection for research and innovations developed by MPOB, in support of the country’s palm oil industry.

“This initiative will also enhance the competitiveness, productivity and sustainability of Malaysia’s palm oil sector,” he said in a statement.

“With MyIPO providing a support system to protect intellectual property rights, the interests of research agencies such as MPOB, as well as companies seeking to commercialise MPOB innovations, can be safeguarded.”

Since 1986, MPOB has filed 394 patents in Malaysia, of which 33 per cent have been successfully commercialised.

The collaboration allows MPOB to participate in the Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC).

Under the MoU, MPOB joins the TISC network, a strategic collaboration platform led by MyIPO alongside various research institutions, to strengthen the protection and management of intellectual property in research, development and innovation.
