Bursa Malaysia Remains Lower At Mid-Afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia remained lower at mid-afternoon as investors stayed cautious and locked in profits ahead of the United States Federal Open Market Committee’s (FOMC) policy decision on interest rates, while also mirroring the downbeat performance across regional markets.

The US FOMC began its two-day policy meeting yesterday and will conclude it today.

At 3 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased 5.23 points, or 0.32 per cent, to 1,608.94 from Tuesday’s close of 1,614.17. The benchmark index opened 3.13 points lower at 1,611.04.

On the broader market, decliners edged gainers 493 to 438, while 520 stocks were unchanged, 1,298 untraded and 12 suspended.

Turnover stood at 2.88 billion units worth RM1.30 billion.

Regionally, Japan's Nikkei 225 Index slipped 0.10 per cent to 50,602.80, South Korea’s Kospi Index fell 0.21 per cent to 4,135.00, China’s SSE Composite Index dipped 0.22 per cent to 3,900.80, and Singapore’s Straits Times Index was 0.14 per cent lower at 4,507.10.

Among heavyweights, Maybank eased two sen to RM10.08, Public Bank added one sen to RM4.38, while CIMB Group slipped four sen to RM7.81, IHH Healthcare fell 12 sen to RM8.41, and Tenaga Nasional was unchanged at RM12.70.

On the most active list, Zetrix AI rose 3.5 sen to 84 sen, Velesto Energy improved two sen to 27.5 sen, Borneo Oil was unchanged at half-a-sen, Main Market debutant Lac Med advanced two sen to 77 sen, and Tanco increased three sen to RM1.17.

Of the top gainers, DKSH Holdings jumped 66 sen to RM5.93, Nestle climbed 50 sen to RM112.20, Dutch Lady added 48 sen to RM30.48, Allianz gained 42 sen to RM20.08, Malaysian Pacific Industries strengthened 32 sen to RM32.20, and UWC increased 27 sen to RM4.04.

Among the top losers, BLD Plantation fell 50 sen to RM16.00, Hong Leong Industries shed 28 sen to RM15.72, Fraser & Neave declined 20 sen to RM35.00, Press Metal dropped 13 sen to RM6.71, and United Plantations eased 12 sen to RM28.72.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index slipped 25.02 points to 11,908.18, the FBM Emas Shariah Index eased 10.47 points to 11,784.20, the FBMT 100 Index declined 28.90 points to 11,692.08, the FBM ACE Index fell 17.71 points to 4,736.58, and the FBM 70 Index edged down 0.83 of-a-point to 16,663.67.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index shed 43.14 points to 18,887.04, and the Plantation Index slipped 2.67 points to 8,078.91, while the Energy Index added 4.65 points to 756.58, and the Industrial Products and Services Index improved 0.15 of-a-point to 166.63.
