PDRM Retain Agong's Cup Rugby Title With 43-29 Win Over Johor

SHAH ALAM, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) defended their Agong’s Cup Rugby Championship title by defeating Johor 43-29 in the final today.

In the match held at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Stadium, Shah Alam, PDRM took an early lead, scoring 19 points in the first half with three tries and two conversions, while Johor managed 17 points from two tries, two conversions, and a penalty kick.

PDRM maintained their momentum in the second half, adding three more tries and conversions, reaching 40 points by the 55th minute.

Johor fought back, scoring 29 points by the 71st and 75th minutes with two tries and a conversion, but faced a setback in the 78th minute when one of their players received a red card for a foul on a PDRM player, leading to his dismissal.

PDRM capitalised on the penalty from this foul, adding three more points to seal their victory at 43-29.

In the third-place match, Terengganu defeated Selangor 43-39.

As champions, PDRM received RM20,000, while Johor took home RM15,000 for second place. Terengganu earned RM10,000, and Selangor RM5,000 for their respective finishes.

PDRM’s Hariz Ezzat Hamidon was named the tournament’s best player, receiving RM1,000 and a plaque.

The prizes were presented by the Yang Dipertuan Muda of Terengganu, Tengku Muhammad Ismail Sultan Mizan. Also present was the president of the Malaysia Rugby Union (KRM), Amir Amri Mohamad.
