KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- Families of prison inmates, including those in Moral Rehabilitation Centres, Special Rehabilitation Centres, Special Detention Centres and Henry Gurney Schools, will be allowed to visit on Nov 2 and 3 in celebration of Deepavali.

The Malaysian Prisons Department, in a statement today, said face-to-face visits will be held from 8.15 am to 4.15 pm. Visitors are advised to bring their visitation and identity cards for a smooth process.

While bringing outside food or beverages is not permitted, items can be purchased from the prison canteen. Priority for visits will be given to Hindu inmates during these dates.

“Visitors are discouraged from giving money to inmates, as the Prisons Department provides all essential needs,” read the statement.

However, for those who wish to give funds for specific purposes, such as exam fees, an official PPT. 28 receipt should be requested as proof of transaction.

In addition, all visitors must comply with the Prisons Act and Regulations, which allow prison officials to conduct security checks upon entry and exit.

For families unable to attend in person, online visitation sessions will be available from Nov 4 to 6.
