Perlis Police Resolve 262 Out Of 290 Crime Index Cases Recorded From Jan To Oct

KANGAR, Nov 1 (Bernama) -- Perlis police have resolved 262 out of the 290 crime index cases reported between Jan to Oct this year, demonstrating the efficiency of the state’s police force in making arrests and conducting investigations.

State police chief Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim said the solved cases are cases that have been brought to court, with an impressive resolution rate of around 90 per cent of crime index cases for  the year.

“Most crimes in Perlis are addressed within 24 hours, meaning that when a report is filed, swift action by the Criminal Investigation Department and other related departments helps us identify and apprehend suspects for prosecution.

“This reflects the strong commitment of all officers and personnel. With 90 per cent of cases resolved before year-end, I am hopeful that all crime index cases will be closed by then,” he said during a media session at the Perlis Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) today, marking his one-year service as State police chief.

Muhammad, who was appointed to the position on Nov 1, 2023, said theft, including various types, was the most reported crime index case from Jan to Oct, with 125 incidents, of which the police have successfully resolved 118 cases.

In the meantime, he also proposed constructing a wall along the Perlis border to replace the aging, 30-year-old fences, aiming to improve border control and curb smuggling.

Muhammad suggested building the wall to a suitable height in key areas along the border, equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) technology and closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras for enhanced monitoring.

“This would allow us to redeploy General Operations Force (PGA) personnel to focus on hotspots instead of having to monitor the entire 106-kilometre Perlis border, including the 45 kilometres of unfenced areas where patrols are conducted on foot,” he said.

While illegal entries still occur through damaged sections of the fence, swift action by PGA teams has helped reduce these cases despite hotspot areas.

“I want to commend the PGA for their commitment over the past year. Their efforts have led to numerous interceptions of border breaches, with damaged or cut fence sections secured, and offenders brought to court,” he added.
