Johor Immigration Dept Arrest 75 Foreigners On Various Offences

JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The Johor Immigration Department arrested 75 foreigners on various offences in various operations here and Iskandar Puteri district from Sunday to Monday.

Its director, Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said that an enforcement team raided 28 restaurants and food courts in Pasir Gudang and Desa Cemerlang in the district and checked 133 foreigners and locals in different operations spread across two days following public tipoffs that those premises were hiring illegal immigrants.

“Those detained include 10 Myanmar men and seven Myanmar women, 19 Indonesian men and 26 Indonesian women, three Bangladeshi men, three Indian men and a Nepali man, 18 to 58,” he said in a statement today, adding that they are believed to have committed offences under Sections 6(1)(c), 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, Regulations 11(b), 39(b) and 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

A total of 13 notices to show up at the Immigration Office were also issued to facilitate investigations.

Meanwhile, the remaining seven foreigners, five Myanmar men, an Indonesian man and woman, 21 to 45, were arrested yesterday in Iskandar Puteri in a joint operation, he said.

“A total of ten premises were raided and 76 foreigners and locals were checked, with seven arrested,” Mohd Rusdi said, adding that they are believed to have committed offences under Sections 6(1)(c) and 15(1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Three notices to show up at the Immigration Office were also issued to individuals in the operation to facilitate investigations, he added.
