KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Allahyarhamah Rosnah Abd Majid, who passed away yesterday, was a remarkable journalist known for her exceptional service throughout her career.
Former Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang expressed hope that Rosnah’s legacy and excellence as a journalist can be emulated by current media practitioners.
“As one of her contemporaries, I hope her legacy is not forgotten. She had many strengths and achievements, including serving as a politician and as Kedah Wanita UMNO Liaison Committee chief,” he told Bernama when met at the Klang Gate Muslim Cemetery here today.
Former Utusan Malaysia sports editor Mustakim Aminuddin said he still remembers her style and voice, describing her as someone who was always ahead of time and generous with her knowledge.
“I joined Utusan Malaysia in the 1970s. Back then, she was new, and her first assignment was to follow me on an assignment. I showed her the ropes, but she was a quick learner and adapted fast,” he recalled.
“In 1984, we both received awards from the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI); she received the Kajai Award, while I received an award in the sports writing field,” said the former Malaysian Sports Writers Association president.
Meanwhile, Rosnah’s sister, Mariam Abdul Majid, described her as an amazing woman, sharing that they had a very close bond and often went everywhere together.
“We were inseparable. I am still coming to terms with her passing. She was healthy, but Allah knows best,” she said.
Rosnah passed away at the age of 71 at her other sister’s home in Teluk Bahang, Penang, at 9.30 am yesterday.
The final rites were performed in Teluk Bahang before her remains were brought to her home in Taman Melawati here last night. She was laid to rest at the Klang Gate Muslim Cemetery at 10 am today.
Rosnah served at Utusan Malaysia for 20 years, beginning in 1977, and was the first recipient of the Kajai Award in 1984.
She served as the State Assemblywoman for Tanjung Dawai from 1999 to 2004 and held the position of Kedah state executive council (Exco) member during the same period.
