Melaka DAP Maintains No-contest Election

24/11/2024 04:22 PM

MELAKA, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- Melaka DAP has retained the party leadership election without a contest for the second consecutive time since 2021.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the move was the result of consensus among party members who agreed to nominate 15 names to form the list of state-level committee members without any contest.

“Although this convention should have had an election, all the candidates contesting reached an understanding not to hold it.

“Since only 15 candidates were contesting, of course whoever was nominated will form a new state committee,” he told reporters after officiating the 21st DAP Melaka Ordinary Convention 2024 here today.

Also present were Melaka Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman who is also Deputy Minister of Defence Adly Zahari and Melaka UMNO Liaison Committee deputy chairman and Senior State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Datuk Rais Yasin.

Loke said the new committee members will meet this evening to determine the chairman, deputy chairman and other positions.

He said four new faces were also appointed to the new committee, namely Lim Han Siang, Teng Wen Jie, Teow Lee Yen and Wang Yi Long.

The 11 existing committee members are S. Chandru, Ayer Keroh assemblyman and Deputy Speaker of Melaka State Assembly Kerk Chee Yee, Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong and Koh Bee Ting.

In addition, Banda Hilir assemblyman Leng Chau Yen, Kota Laksamana assemblyman Low Chee Leong, Lui Poh Siong, Mohd Najib Rebu, Poh Chiou Shya, former Gadek assemblyman G. Saminathan and Kesidang assemblyman and state Exco for Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs Allex Seah Choo Chin.
