KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of National Artist and renowned composer Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Nawab who passed away this afternoon.
In a post on Facebook, Fahmi described the passing of Ahmad Nawab or his real name Ahmad Khan Nawab Khan as the loss of a priceless gem, especially in the entertainment world.
"The contribution of the late Ahmad Nawab in this field is too immense. Since the 1950s, he has composed over 2,000 songs, produced over 200 albums and produced many of the biggest names in the world of entertainment, especially singers.
"He had served with the Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Orchestra for 17 years, besides being awarded the title of the seventh National Artist in 2006. This loss is certainly felt, not only by industry players, but also by fans, as well as local music industry in general," he said.
He passed away at the age of 92 due to old age at about 3.15 pm this afternoon at his residence in Taman Melewar, Gombak near here today
News of Ahmad Nawab's passing was confirmed by his grandchild Teh Suraya Nasir Khan when contacted by Bernama.
Teh Suraya said the body of the deceased is expected to be buried tomorrow morning at the Raudhatul Sakinah Islamic Cemetery in Kuala Lumpur-Karak here.
Throughout his career, Ahmad Nawab has produced more than 200 albums by local and Indonesian artists such as Hetty Koes Endang and Broery Marantika.
For his expertise and achievements, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) conferred an honorary Doctor of Philosophy award in the field of writing in 2000.
