Quotas For NEM Rakyat, NEM Nova Raised To Spur Installation Of Solar PV Systems - Petra

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) has agreed to add a quota of 50 megawatts (MW) for the Net Energy Metering (NEM) programme for the domestic category, known as NEM Rakyat, after the previous quota was filled in early November.

The ministry announced the additional new quota in a statement today, bringing the total quota for NEM Rakyat to 450 MW since its implementation in 2011, adding that applications will be reopened today.

Meanwhile the NEM NOVA quota for commercial and industry accounts will also be raised by 300 MW to 1,400 MW to support corporations’ efforts to fulfil their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments in terms of green electricity supply.

“Due to encouraging response, PETRA has decided to increase the quotas for NEM Rakyat and NEM NOVA so more consumers can benefit from installing solar PV systems on the roofs of their buildings.

“The additional quotas are also in line with the announcement to extend the period of NEM programme implementation to June 30, 2025 in the Budget 2025, and the latest guidelines for both programmes can be obtained from the Energy Commission’s website at www.st.gov.my,” the ministry said.

PETRA also informed that the government has taken note of the general view that stakeholders need to be better informed about the direction of the solar panel installations on roofs to ease commercial arrangements and will study the matter and make an announcement when all aspects have been finalised.

“PETRA is always committed to ensuring the implementation of all renewable energy initiatives introduced are inclusive, fair and benefits all Malaysians.

“As such the solar system installation on roofs will be conducted in an organised and comprehensive manner to achieve the target of a 70 per cent mix of renewable energy capacity in the national electric supply by 2050,” it said.
