IPOH, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- Seven local authorities in Perak today received body-worn cameras (BWCs) to be immediately used by their enforcement officers.
The authorities are the Ipoh City Council, Manjung Municipal Council, Taiping Municipal Council, Teluk Intan Municipal Council, Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council, Kampar District Council, and Batu Gajah District Council.
Perak Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching said the committee had conducted a three-month proof of concept for the BWC usage programme since August.
“The use of BWCs was proposed following issues involving street animal capture operations.
“The state government has decided to implement the use of body-worn cameras…to ensure that operations are carried out more transparently, professionally, and ethically,” she said after the handover ceremony here.
According to Ng, the state government will distribute more BWCs to eight local authorities under phase two of the programme in the first quarter of 2025.
