TERENGGANU BRACES FOR THIRD WAVE OF FLOODS

KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- Terengganu is expected to experience the third wave of flooding tomorrow, triggered by the phenomenon of high tides and continuous heavy rain, which is forecast to last until Thursday.

State Infrastructure, Utilities and Rural Development Committee chairman Hanafiah Mat said 44 villages across four districts – Kemaman, Besut, Setiu, and Hulu Terengganu are expected to be at risk of flooding.

In Besut, at-risk areas include Kampung Pok Sik, Kampung Belaoh, Felcra Keruak, Kampung La, Chegar Batang, Pasir Akar, Jerubun, Bukit Payung and Batu 13.

"In Kemaman, the affected areas are Padang Kubu, Pelantoh, Kampung Tebak, Batuk 16 Tebak and Kampung Sungai Mas.

"Meanwhile, in Setiu, the villages at risk include Kampung Langkap, Kampung Chalok Kedai, Batu 29, Gong Terap, Lubuk Panjang and Felda Kampung Rahmat," he said in a statement today.

Hanafiah said in Hulu Terengganu, at-risk villages include Kampung Sekayu, Kampung Pelandan, Kampung Cheting, Kampung Menjing, Kampung Durian Bador, Kampung Padang Setar, Kampung Pengkalan Ajal, Kampung Paya Besar, Kampung Menerong, Kampung Kua, Kampung Peneh and the Felcra Gunung Menerong Resettlement Scheme (PPSK), along with Kampung Lenjang and Kampung Betong.

Other villages in Hulu Terengganu likely to be affected are Kampung Paloh Nyior, Kampung Bukit Tadok, Kampung Matang, Kampung Kepah, Kampung Pasir Dula, Kampung Tengkawang, Kampung Kuala Ping, Kampung Tok Lawit, Kampung Nibong, and Kampung Kuala Telemong.

He urged residents in these areas to stay alert and follow the instructions of the authorities.
