KANGAR, Dec 20 (Bernama) -- A multi-storey car park, with about 690 parking bays, will be constructed near the Kuala Perlis Ferry Terminal near here to cater to tourists visiting the state.
Kangar Municipal Council (MPK) president Affendi Rajini Kanth said the car park construction project, which had been approved by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), is expected to commence next year and is anticipated to be fully completed by 2026.
“We thank the ministry for the approval, which will help address the parking shortage, especially in the Kuala Perlis area,” he told reporters here yesterday.
Meanwhile, Affendi said MPK would establish a special task force to enforce the ban on littering, including issuing on-the-spot fines for offences such as disposing of cigarette butts.
“Fines ranging from RM10 to RM50 will be imposed. However, we will begin by educating the public from January to March 2025 before enforcing this ban,” he said.
Additionally, he said MPK plans to submit an application to the state government to rename MPK as the Perlis Municipal Council to broaden the identity of its services, which encompass the entire state of Perlis.
“This is part of our efforts to make Perlis a smart city, not just in Kangar but throughout the state. We anticipate that this rebranding effort will be implemented next year,” he said.
In the meantime, Affendi said MPK would introduce a smart parking application system starting January next year, with the initial phase covering Kangar before expanding to the entire state.
