KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 (Bernama) -- In light of recent floods across Malaysia, IHH Healthcare Group is donating RM1 million to the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) and MERCY Malaysia, with RM500,000 allocated to each organisation to support critical relief efforts and address the widespread post-flood impacts.

In a statement today, it said that alongside the financial assistance, the group’s IHH Healthcare Malaysia operations stand ready to offer on-site support and assistance.

It said the donation to MRCS will bolster their emergency fund while the donation to MERCY Malaysia will support mobile clinics providing essential healthcare to flood-hit rural areas, prioritising vulnerable groups.

IHH Healthcare group chief executive officer Dr Prem Kumar Nair said as a healthcare provider that is deeply connected to Malaysia, the group is also ready to extend further support and medical assistance for those impacted.

"Even as relief work is now focused on restoring livelihoods and rebuilding communities, a second wave of floods cannot be ruled out. IHH will stand ready to alleviate the burden on affected communities and offer more assistance as the situation requires," he said.

Meanwhile, Allianz Malaysia Berhad (Allianz Malaysia), in a separate statement, said that through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm, Allianz4Good, it continues to support the Malaysia International Search and Rescue (MISAR) in its ongoing 2024 flood relief efforts.

These efforts focus on providing essential aid to communities across several flood-affected states, including Terengganu, Kelantan, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, and Melaka.

Head of Allianz4Good, Ng Siew Gek said that by partnering with MISAR, the company aims to support relief efforts and ensure that crucial resources reach those in urgent need.

"We hope the contribution can provide much-needed assistance to those affected by the floods and accommodate timely recovery," she said.
