Expert Raises Concerns Over Lack Of Clear AI Ethics Guidelines

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 26 (Bernama) -- The lack of clear guidelines on artificial intelligence (AI), particularly regarding ethical standards, remains a significant concern as the technology continues to evolve rapidly.

Basementality Sdn Bhd business development executive, Kirill Korbout emphasised that there are growing concerns over privacy, accountability, and potential misuse of AI, noting that some information should remain restricted from consumer access.

“The guidelines on AI are still very gray. What we have seen is it's been rolled out but we haven't always discussed the ethical aspects. Because you know, different countries have different ways and different cultures.

“… To what extent is AI permitted to access and extract information? For instance, consider a major database owned by a publication such as BERNAMA.

“Should AI be allowed to scan it? If so, at what cost?” he said during Bernama TV's The Nation programme today.

Korbout also questioned the extent to which AI should have access to sensitive data.

He noted that 2024 saw the integration of AI as an embedded service across major platforms including iOS, Samsung, Microsoft, and Google.

“AI has essentially become an additional layer on top of existing services, providing users with a new set of tools,” he added.
