MELAKA, Dec 26 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) will provide appropriate assistance to the families of two students involved in a fatal accident this morning.
UTeM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Massila Kamalrudin said the university would also assist in the transportation of the remains of Nurul Syafiqah Nasruddin and Nurhanis Afryna Azizan to their hometowns in Gemencheh, Negeri Sembilan and Muadzam Shah, Pahang.
"All UTeM staff expressed their sorrow over the death of the two students and sympathised with their families.
"The management and all UTeM staff are also saddened to receive this news and extend their condolences to the parents and family members of the students involved," he said in a statement here today.
Massila said at the same time, the university was also arranging for death insurance compensation and contributions from the UTeM Student Charity Fund to the families of the deceased students.
Earlier, the media reported that two public university students died after the vehicle they were travelling in skidded and hit a guardrail at KM 186.7 of the North-South Expressway heading north here this morning.
The victims, Nurul Syafiqah Nasruddin and Nurhanis Afryna Azizan, both 19 years old, were confirmed dead at the scene while the driver, Nur Hanis Suraya Supiyan, 19, and another passenger, Azwalidiya Azman, 21, suffered injuries and are currently being treated at Melaka Hospital.
