Ehsan Mart Expands Range Of Subsidised Products With Six Additional Items

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- Ehsan Mart has introduced six additional subsidised products to make essential goods more accessible, particularly for the B40 and M40 groups.

Selangor Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee chairman, Datuk Ir Izham Hashim, announced that the items include products such as detergent, biscuits, flour, sardines, vermicelli, and disposable diapers.

"Last year, we offered six products. This year, we’ve expanded the range to 12 items, available at two Ehsan Mart outlets and through the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat (JER) programme," he said after the opening of the second Ehsan Mart in Pandan Utama, Pandan Indah, today.

He added that the supermarket, which offers 15 to 20 percent lower prices, helps people cope with global economic challenges and serves as a food distribution centre during emergencies.

Also present were Selangor State Development Corporation (PKPS) chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Mohamad Khairil Mohd Razi, and Ampang Jaya Municipal Council president, Dr Ani Ahmad.

Izham elaborated that Ehsan Mart will serve as a storage hub for the Selangor Food Warehouse to ensure the smooth operation of the state's food supply chain.

"Through the JER programme, a subsidy worth RM12 million benefitted over 4.5 million Selangor residents across more than 1,200 sales locations last year," he disclosed.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Khairil explained that the expansion of subsidised products was driven by the demand and needs of the community, intended to alleviate the rising cost of living.

"We are not running the supermarket for commercial purposes; this is an initiative to help the people while ensuring food security and the sustainability of the local economy.

"This is the state government's initiative through PKPS to establish a supermarket that can provide affordable goods," he said.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari had previously stated that the opening of Ehsan Mart is a continuation of the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat programme initiated by PKPS since August 2022, providing the public with access to essential goods at affordable prices.
