ALOR SETAR, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) cracked down on the sale of one-kilogramme (kg) subsidised cooking oil polybag in a raid on the construction site of a factory in Kulim yesterday.
Kedah KPDN director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin said the raid carried out by the Kulim and Alor Setar KPDN branches at noon also exposed the sale of sugar and wheat flour without a licence.
“During the raid, a local man in his 30s admitted to being the caretaker of a retail outlet at the factory site. An inspection revealed 967 kg of subsidised cooking oil in polythene bags, 480 kg of wheat flour and 23 kg of sugar, estimated to be worth more than RM3,900.
“The man was released after his statement was taken and the case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 (Act 122),” he said in a statement today.
He said the KPDN also reminded parties on the sale of subsidised goods to comply with the law and warned that there would be no compromise in the misappropriation of such controlled items (cooking oil sold in bottles of 2-to-5 kg is not subsidised while subsidised oil is sold at RM2.50 per polybag in the market).
“The public can channel information to KPDN for further action via the e-aduan 2.0 portal http://e-aduan.kpdn.gov.my or contact the Kedah KPDN office at 04-7001745," he said.
