KOTA BHARU, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- The state government has allocated RM6.79 million to boost the agriculture sector in 2025, said Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin.

He said the allocation covers six key priorities, including positioning Kelantan as the ‘Jelapang Makanan Negara’ and enhancing the Al-Falah agricultural initiative.

In addition, the government is working on establishing the Darulnaim rice mill, a livestock feed mill, and expanding the Lojing Collection, Processing, and Packaging Centre (Lojing CPPC) as part of efforts to commercialise the Rong Chenok Agro Valley in Pasir Mas.

“The planned transformations are expected to increase exports and develop the food industry, capitalising on Kelantan’s reputation as a producer of high-quality agricultural products,” he said.

“With innovation and added value in agriculture, we aim to expand the market reach of our agricultural produce, such as rice, durians, and organic products, positively impacting the state’s economy,” he said in his New Year’s message during the 2025 civil servants assembly here today

At the same event, Mohd Nassuruddin also highlighted the state’s commitment to providing clean water supply by undertaking a comprehensive replacement of old pipes in accordance with key performance indicators (KPIs), with 898.08 kilometres (km) out of 3,613 km to be replaced, in order to reduce non-revenue water (NRW) this year.

“The implementation schedule must be strictly followed by Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB), including upgrading the existing treatment plants to improve water supply efficiency and quality,” he said.

Meanwhile, in another development, the Kelantan government recorded a surplus of RM10.92 million by the end of 2024, reducing the initial budget deficit of RM178.49 million. This reflects the state’s commitment to sustainable financial management and strong federal relations.

“This was something I emphasised during my meeting with the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, during his courtesy visit to my office yesterday,” he added.

He also said that Kelantan’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2023 has shown an increase, generating RM27.6 billion.

“To further enhance the competitiveness of the investment sector, we plan to extend the Kelantan Special Incentive Package for 2025, which includes a 100 per cent income tax exemption for 15 years and a special rate of 17 per cent for five years,” he said.

In his speech, Mohd Nassuruddin also announced a 90 per cent discount on overdue land tax penalties, initially set to end on Dec 30, 2024, but now extended to March 31, 2025.
