Dasha Logan Revives Alleycats Songs Through 'Legasi'

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- As a tribute to the legendary band Alleycats, singer Dasha Logan has released an extended play (EP) titled ‘Legasi’, which is now available on all major streaming platforms.

Dasha, 37, the daughter of the late Alleycats vocalist Datuk Loganathan Arumugam, said ‘Legasi’ was created to inspire the younger generation to appreciate and embrace the iconic group’s popular songs.

"I hope all generations, young and old, will listen to Alleycats' music. A good song is a good song as long as you keep listening to it. So, let's all fall in love with the music of the Alleycats again," she told reporters after the launch of ‘Legasi’ yesterday.

The EP, featuring musical arrangements by Melina Williams and produced by Rozhan Razman, comprises five songs by the Alleycats titled ‘Jika Kau Bercinta Lagi’, ‘Senandung Semalam’, ‘Seribu Bintang’, ‘Andainya Aku Pergi Dulu’ and ‘Sampaikanlah Salam’.

The project, supported by funding from MyCreative Ventures Sdn Bhd, also includes a special collaboration by Dasha and her uncle Datuk David Arumugam, who was also a vocalist for Alleycats.

Dasha said the idea for the EP project came about before the Movement Control Order in 2020.

"But I admit it was challenging to sing the Alleycats songs because of the emotional ties as they (group members) are part of my family," she said.

According to Dasha, she explored something different with the featured songs, with the help of the music director, and remained open to feedback and criticism from listeners.

"At first, people might say, 'I don't like it,' but if they listen more closely, they will see that this is an interesting way to present these songs," she said.

In the future, the ‘Cleverly’ singer hopes to introduce less popular works by Alleycats for the younger generation to enjoy.

"Alleycats has more than 100 songs from various albums, but most people only know about 20 or 30 of them. I want to revive some of the lesser-known songs, such as ‘Cahaya Keinsafan’ and ‘Dengar Lihat Fikir’," she added.
