JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- Johor police have confirmed that the incident shown in a viral video, where a man slapped a Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) staff member, took place in November last year.
Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief ACP Raub Selamat said that they were alerted to the video at about 3 pm today through a link on the X application.
“The incident occurred at around 5.40 pm on Nov 18 at the Puspakom Taman Daya branch. The suspect, a 59-year-old local man and Puspakom customer, slapped the victim, allegedly because his lorry had failed the inspection conducted by him.
“Following the incident, a police report was filed by the victim, a 38-year-old local man and Puspakom staff member, on the same day,” he said in a statement today, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
Raub advised the public not to share the video on social media to prevent any misunderstanding or speculation that could disrupt the investigation.
He also urged anyone with information about the incident to contact investigating officer Inspector Mohd Syahriezam Shamri at 014-8028427.
A closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showing a man scolding the victim before slapping him in a fit of anger has gone viral on social media.
