PUTRAJAYA, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- The disbursement of financial aid under the Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (MITRA) Higher Education Institution (IPT) Early Admission Assistance Programme (IPT 4.0 MITRA) for B40 Indian students has been taking place in stages since December and is expected to be completed by the end of February.
In a statement today, MITRA said that it has received 12,626 applications from Indian students nationwide, with 2,461 students granted aid after undergoing screenings.
“However, during the screening process, many applications were found to have incomplete or insufficiently verified documents or raised doubts.
“As MITRA wants the assistance to be given to truly eligible recipients, we are cross-checking data with relevant IPTs and verifying B40 status. Among the issues identified are the bank account number not being submitted and the absence of confirmation letters from universities,” said MITRA.
It added that the list of eligible students would be announced in stages via the MITRA portal and its Facebook page.
MITRA has allocated RM25 million for 12,400 students under the IPT MITRA 4.0 programme. Each student will receive RM2,000, with students with disabilities receiving RM3,000 as a one-off payment through Bank Simpanan Nasional.
