CAMBODIA

1. INSURANCE INDUSTRY SEES GROWTH POTENTIAL -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE

The  Insurance Regulator of Cambodia said the industry registered a gross premium of RM1.6 billion (US$356.4 million) last year, an increase of 3.5 per cent compared to a year before. The market has 18 general insurance companies and 14 life insurers.  

2. DEMINING SUSPENDED AS FUNDING STOPS -- FRESH NEWS 

The Cambodian Mine Action Centre temporarily suspended demining in eight provinces following the United States' decision to halt overseas assistance. Removing unexploded land mines has been suspended from January 25 until further notice.

 

INDONESIA

1. GOOGLE GLITCH SHOWS RUPIAH AT RP 8,170 PER DOLLAR, HALF THE OFFICIAL RATE -- JAKARTA GLOBE

A technical glitch on Google’s currency converter on Saturday caused widespread confusion as it displayed an inaccurate rupiah exchange rate of Rp 8,170 per US dollar. The rate was significantly lower than the official exchange rates published by Bank Indonesia (BI) and financial data providers.

MYANMAR

1. RARE HIMALAYAN VULTURE SPOTTED NEAR DAM -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

The world’s rare bird species like migratory water birds, forest birds, and Himalayan vultures or Himalayan griffon vultures, reside in the Mandalay Region. About 1,000 birds of over 20 species of migratory water birds and forest birds are spotted near the Kyetmauktaung dam.

 

2. FISHERIES EXPORTS AIM TO REACH RM3 BILLION -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

Myanmar exporters targeting about RM3 billion (US$700 million) from fisheries sales in the 2024-2025 financial year, which ends in March. So far export revenue has reached RM2.3 billion (US$521 million). Myanmar's main export markets are China, Thailand, Japan and  European countries.
